Assessment delves deeper by examining whether the individual’s intentions align with their emotional and psychological readiness. Goals, on the other hand, are the specific actions or outcomes that align with and fulfill the broader intention. If the intention is to heal emotionally, for example, a goal might be to gain insights into past trauma or to cultivate resilience in daily life. Goals give structure to the intention, providing measurable steps and achievable outcomes, which can be tracked and evaluated throughout the psychedelic process.

Values play a foundational role in both intentions and goals, providing a moral and philosophical grounding that shapes the way an individual approaches their journey. Values reflect the individual’s core beliefs, ethics, and what truly matters to them on a deep, personal level. It’s not about bypassing or ignoring limiting beliefs or conditioned patterns; rather, it’s about recognizing them without giving them undue energy. We often resist change because it requires us to leave the safety of what we know, even when those patterns are harmful.
